The First
Congregational Church was founded in April 1898 by a group of faithful
men and women who met in the Old Earle School House on Mussey Grade
Road. Later, from 1904-1907 the church met in the Town Hall while
plans were being made for a permanent location. On February 24,
1907, the new church building was dedicated at its current location.
Since that time the church has been in continuous service to Ramona and
the surrounding area. Our church membership is currently about 425
members, joined together for worship and spiritual growth, for
fellowship and Christian service.
Our church belongs to the United
Church of Christ, a denomination which came into being in 1957 by the
merger of the Congregational Christian and the Evangelical and Reformed
churches. This larger church body assists each local congregation
by offering guidance and service in matters relating to ministry,
worship, education, evangelism, stewardship and Christian mission work
at home and abroad.
Each local congregation elects its own
officers, calls its own ministers and determines its own constitution ,
by-laws and mission statement. Ultimate authority resides in the
whole body of the membership at each church.
Many opportunities are offered for the
worship and service of God... whether one is a member of long standing, a
new member or contemplating joining the church. We hope that these
pages will provide you with an introduction to the life and ministries
of First Congregational Church. Above all, we hope that you will visit
with us on a Sunday and be a part of our church family.
Worship Services
The Sunday
morning schedule includes worship in the Sanctuary, Church School and
Fellowship. Each Sunday our congregation
gathers for worship at 9:00 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. Our 9:00 a. m. service
is a worship expression that includes the traditional hymns and liturgy
of the Christian church. Our 10:15 a.m. service is a bit more informal
and is designed to help those without a traditional church background
feel more comfortable. Familiar songs and children's events are an
important part of this service. We invite you to find the worship
experience that speaks most clearly to you… and to join us each Sunday.
We welcome all visitors and encourage you to join us in worship and the
many other activities, missions and service in the church.
