Undeserved Favor

Grace is the basis for the Christian faith. We believe we are saved by faith through grace. God's grace is usually defined as undeserved favor. Grace cannot be earned; it is something that is freely given. We count on God's grace and the bridge He built in our relationship with him.

There was a lighter breeze today. I don’t quite know how one might find breezes heavy vs light, but, today I definitely sensed a difference. It’s a busy time of year for most people, however, with the happenings of a few of our church’s endeavors, it is also clear that there are a lot of people that won’t be doing much more than being homebound. Thankfully God has called our congregation to be of service and we stay diligent to lift the burdens of others.

In the course of my trips to our sanctuary and other parts of our church campus, the grace of our Lord overwhelmed me as I delighted in this light breeze. While I believe my efforts to never lose sight of God’s grace is strong, it was a welcome reminder to never take it for granted.

There was also a palpable serenity all around me as I flighted from place to place. Some of this is a reprieve from the busy nonstop weekend of wonderful church events we had over the weekend, but I surmise most is quite simply God enveloping us in His love. Today, I was fully emersed within His loving of me.

And I was also struck by a simple thought … a moment of reminder that God is quite simple. Without the toil of hustle or the fanfare of bustle, God simply IS. His grace IS.

In God’s love, there is no schedule to keep, no event calendar to update, no need to carve out a time or place … His love and grace is constant and unswerving. A delighted smile came to me as I mused that I don’t have to be a one person three-ring circus to gain His attention, love or grace. Because I am simply, His.

Prayer: Dear Father, may I never waver in my appreciation and gratitude for your undeserving grace. Thank you for your unconditional love and care for me, and for all your children. Amen.
