The Christmas Angels
When we think of angels, it’s usually at Christmas and, secondly, at Easter. We love the notion of heavenly beings filling the sky with their trumpets and choirs singing the Christmas Carols. Clothed in glittering lace, twinkling like stars—whiter than white—we are awed by their glorious harmonies and appearance. And then we put them away with the Christmas decorations and tree.
On that first Christmas, angels delivered decrees from God to Zachariah, Mary, Joseph (3 times), and the shepherds. He ensured that there was no uncertainty as to what was going to take place. The Son of God was coming to earth. Moreover, He was under God’s protective cover. Neither Herod nor Lucifer had any hope of getting to Him.
The only time more than one angel appeared was when the skies filled with angels above the shepherds because they could not contain their joy. They were compelled to sing and declare the Son’s praises. You see, the most important characteristic of angels is that they work on our behalf. They are driven by an inexhaustible love for God and want us to know Jesus.
Thank God for angels. They bear witness to God’s decrees, and they assist in God’s governance of the universe. They are not mythological beings. They are not a fiction. They are God’s supernatural beings who are very active in His ministry, even in 2022.
