….a journey following a single rather unremarkable passage as it is (mis)applied over millennia.
The Bible isn’t new. It has been around for a long time and it’s been interpreted by churches, schools, governments, organizations, and individuals for over 2,000 years. And there are about as many different interpretations throughout history as there are people who’ve read it. Sometimes the Scriptures get put to some pretty strange use.
No better is this exemplified than by the various interpretations of 2 Timothy 2:19. In this study, we will trace this peculiar passage from its inception, from the Eastern Mediterranean, to Roman North Africa, Medieval France, and 20th century Viet Nam. Our very own John Stevenson will be leading this Bible study and help us to gain some clues as to how we might interpret the Scriptures today.
